The need to vanquish your enemies is as old as time. But with so much technology laying around these days, why settle for old fashioned forged steel or gunpowder? These geeks have created usable or at least decorative versions of weapons found in video games and movies. If you’re interested in reading further, start here: The RPF (forums) and Volpin Props.
I feel like I should put a disclaimer here to protect RofG’s interest in case any of you do anything stupid and get hurt, but since stupid people will do stupid things no matter what I say, I won’t.

The Tesla Gun
Rob Flickenger has made himself a mad-scientist-approved Tesla Gun, a hand held weapon that shoots lightning at enemies. Sworn Enemies. However, it’s close range, and not all that dangerous. So let’s just say this gun is intended for Casual Enemies? [via Geekologie]
Star Trek Phaser
Warning: Actual injury hazard, especially eyes. Do not point lasers at people or airplanes.
Posting to laserpointerforums.com and Youtube, user jayrob shows off his Phaser. Housed inside a toy replica of a phaser, jayrob adds a working laser and sound effects. The laser is strong enough to pop balloons, but won’t be of much help in case of Klingon invasion.
Portal Gun
Harrison Krix’s Portal Gun won’t create real portals (at least he doesn’t mention it will…), but it’s just as sexy as you’d expect it. Almost like Apple’s designers had gotten into weapon design. A similar project was a contest winner on Instructables.
